Over 390,000 people suffered damage to household furniture during last year's summer holidays, according to new research.
A new study by Sainsbury's Bank has revealed that parents in the UK may well face over £600 million worth of accidental household damage during the school summer break.
This damage, caused mostly by children and pets, is made worse during the summer months because kids are not at school and are liable to run riot around the family home.
Researchers found that during last year's school holidays, 5.6 million people experienced this sort of damage, amounting to around £639 million.
This includes 392,000 people who suffered damage to beds, tables, chairs, desks and other furniture.
Robert O'May, manager of Sainsbury's Home Insurance, said: "The summer holidays are a long period of time to keep children amused and it's impossible to supervise their play every minute of the day.
"However a mixture of general high spirits and children letting off steam can result in substantial damage to the family home and parents need to make sure they have adequate insurance to cover the inevitable mishaps and accidents that will occur."
