An organisation in Norfolk has been awarded £8,000 for its wood recycling activities.
Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mind won a share of the local council's Recycling Challenge Fund after appearing before a panel of experts for a "dragon's den-style" grilling, according to the local newspaper.
The Yarmouth Mercury reports that Broadland district council offered a share of its £35,000 recycling fund for people or businesses that could demonstrate "innovative, environmentally-friendly ideas."
The Great Yarmouth and Waveney branch of mental health charity, Mind, put forward its Woodstock scheme. The green initiative charges customers to collect their waste wood which is then taken away, cleaned and graded.
The organisation sells any wood that makes the grade to the public for use in their home DIY projects, while other pieces are made into small gardenfurniture items such as bird boxes.
Another company in the Norwich area was awarded a portion of the fund for its idea to recycle old gardenfurniture to make recovered plastic.
A growing trend for green furniture has seen the invention of new products around the world, including work surfaces made from compressed sunflower seeds and chair fabrics made from cornstalks.
