Pine furniture - nation of home improvers

According to new research, an increasing number of UK homeowners are undertaking home improvements to add to the value of their properties.
The study, carried out for Halifax, found that 25 per cent of homeowners who undertook such work in the last year did so to bump up the value of their home.
Some 30 per cent of home improvements last year included new furnishings.
Other popular upgrades included redecorating, gardening, laying laminate or wood flooring and adding a new bathroom.
Commenting on the findings, Patrick Sawdon of Halifax Valuers said: "Our research shows that Britain has become a nation of movers and improvers.
"It's great to see that so many people are investing time and effort in improving their home."
However, he added: "A word of caution though; poorly executed home improvements can actually detract from the value of your property.
"If you're considering embarking on major work, do consult the professionals and seek any necessary planning permission before getting started."
